Home Build – Week 9

This week the finish work on the interior of our home began. The interior walls were finished with the final sanding, texture, and paint. The painter sprayed the entire interior with one finish color, and we are having our friend Rob at Pickett Precision Painting add a couple touches of color for us. We’ll probably do Read More

Home Build – Week 8

This week in our home build the contractors finished the siding, and drywall hanging. They are now working on mudding and taping the drywall. We talked with the builder about the completion date. He’s a bit ahead of schedule and we’d like to lock interest rates as soon as possible. Right now we are about Read More

Home Build – Week 6

This week, not much happened on the exterior of the house, but there was a flurry of activity inside. The electricians, HVAC crew, and plumber  were all hard at work this week. The furnace and most of the ductwork was installed as well as all the wiring and electrical boxes. Also, the bathtubs were placed and Read More

Home Build – Week 5

Take a look back to last week, and you’ll see how much was accomplished this week! It’s amazing to me the transformation in such a short time. The rough framing went really quickly and is already complete. They also put in windows, shingled the roof, and started electrical work. We did notice one oops, that Read More

Home Build – Week 4

This week in our home building process the basement floor was poured, and the framing started. It’s amazing how fast thing seem to go when they get to this point. It seems like we went from a hole in the ground to a house in a matter of a week! We also finally got our Read More

Home Build – Week 3

This week in the home build, the foundation was back-filled, and the underground plumbing was installed. I climbed down into the basement to take a peak at things today. I was a little puzzled when I couldn’t find any interior drain tile around the footings. Then I found a cut section of the footing forms, and Read More

Home Build – Week 2

It was pretty exciting early this week with the home build. The foundation was completed and a temporary electrical service was installed. After the forms came off the foundation though, there was no action the rest of the week. The foundation needs several days of curing to solidify enough to back-fill against it.The back-filling will happen this coming week, Read More

Home Build – Week 1

The build has begun. This week, we closed on our lot, the builder scraped it, leveled it out, surveyed, dug for the basement and footings, and poured footings. By the end of next week, hopefully we’ll have a full foundation. Stay tuned.

Home Build – The Rock

In our last home build blog, we talked about signing the building contract, and picking out some more finishes. Since then we’ve lined up insurance, had an appraisal, and finalized the construction loan. Of course, we are still trying to plan out the little details in the house, too. With everything lined up and ready Read More

Home Build – Bids, Finishes, and Contract

Well NOW it’s official, we are building a house. Today we signed the building contract; this means our contingency for purchasing the lot is satisfied and we can move forward! (Wife Comment: YAY!) Yesterday, we took the day off and visited Nonn’s  Designer Showplace for a second time. Last time we selected counter tops and Read More
