2015 Dane County Real Estate Statistics

It was another good year for real estate. The housing market locally and nationally has seen increased values and sales volume in the past year. According to the Case Shiller Index, home prices nationally were up 5.16% over last year (through the 3rd quarter). Here, in Dane County, MLS data as of January 1st shows median home prices were up 4.5% to $230,000 and sales were up 8.7%. Most communities around the area where in similar ranges.

The top 3 towns in the Madison area for increased prices in 2015 were Westport with a 20.8% increase, Maple Bluff at 15.2%, and Monona at 10.2%. The top 3 towns for increased home sales were Maple Bluff with a 42.1% increase, Fitchburg at 35.5%, and Oregon at 33.6%.

I think it’s safe to say we’ve recovered well from the real estate downturn a few years ago. Prices have been up for 3 straight years now, and have exceeded the previous peak in 2007. Things appear to be on track for a healthy slow and steady growth that this area has seen historically.
